August is the most dangerous driving month of the year

August is just around the corner, and you’ll want to be aware that it continues to the be deadliest driving month of the year. Nationwide says members reported more accidents in August 2016 than in any other month over the last four years.

Also, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says that over a five-year span (2012-2016), over 15,000 people died in motor vehicle crashes in August, ranking it as the deadliest driving month of the year. Specifically, August 2nd is the deadliest driving day of the year, having more fatalities due to motor vehicle crashes than any other calendar day over that same five-year span. Data collected through Nationwide’s SmartRide program reveals the biggest contributing factors to auto accidents are: hard braking, suddenly speeding up and time spent in congested driving conditions.
