Allman Brothers’ Dickey Betts’ brain surgery was a success

Dickey Betts, the co-founding Allman Brothers Band guitarist, was in critical condition after slipping in a freak accident, in which he cracked his head, causing bleeding in his brain. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports that Betts would undergo surgery on Friday (September 21st) to relieve swelling on his brain. Betts, who last month was forced to scrap a string of shows after suffering a mild stroke, was playing with his dog on Monday (September 17th) in the yard on of his house on Little Sarasota Bay when he was injured.

David Spero, Betts’ manager, has since told The Sarasota Herald-Tribune that the surgery was a success and he is now resting and recovering at home.  Betts’ family thanks fans for all the prayers and support.

Betts is best remembered for his timeless contributions including “Blue Sky,” “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed,” “Ramblin’ Man,” and the instrumental “Jessica.”
