Only minutes after guesting with Billy Joel on stage on Saturday night (November 10th) at Madison Square Garden, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry experienced shortness of breath and was treated by paramedics. Deadline.com reported Perry, who’s now 68, performed “Walk This Way’ with Billy and his band and “. . . was taken out of the Garden on a stretcher after paramedics worked on him in his dressing room, reportedly inserting a tracheal tube down his throat at one point.”

Joe Perry’s reps released an official statement on Sunday (November 11th), which read:

“Following a guest performance during Billy Joel’s show last night at Madison Square Garden, Joe Perry experienced shortness of breath and was treated backstage by paramedics who gave the guitarist oxygen and used a tracheal tube to clear his airway before taking him to a hospital. This morning Perry remains in the hospital where he is alert and responsive. The Aerosmith guitarist will be unable to appear today at Rock And Roll Fantasy Camp in Florida and apologizes to those attending. Perry is expected to return to the road later this month.”

Joe Perry will undertake a 10-city solo tour later this month with his backing band featuring fellow Aerosmith bandmate Brad Whitford and Extreme frontman Gary Cherone. The mini-trek kicks off on November 30th in Sioux City, Iowa and wraps on December 16th in Agoura Hills, California. Along the way, Perry and the band will make stops in West Dundee, Illinois; Detroit; New York City; Philly; Cherokee, North Carolina; along with dates in San Francisco, Pasadena, and Los Angeles, California.
