Santa NORAD Tracker will still run this year

The government may be partially shut down this holiday, but that won’t stop the hundreds of volunteers in santa hats and military attire from showing up to answer phone calls and track Santa this Christmas Eve! According to the military, the NORAD that tracks Santa will not be affected by the government shutdown because it is run by the volunteers at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado and funded by the Department of Defense’s budget approved earlier in the year. Interestingly enough, the Santa Tracker began in 1955, after a child mistakenly called the Continental Air Defense Command and asked to speak to Santa. The good news for children is that it will be up and running for its 63rd year in a row.
