Oldest person in U.S., Lessie Brown, dies at age 114

The oldest person in the U.S., a 114-year-old Ohio woman named Lessie Brown, died yesterday (January 8th) at her daughter’s Cleveland Heights home where she’d been living, according to her grandson Ronald Wilson. Brown was born in Georgia as one of 12 siblings and grew up on a farm before moving to Cleveland with her family when she was 18. She was married four years later and had five children. Her husband died in 1991. Brown became the oldest living person in the U.S. last May. The world’s oldest person is believed to be a 116-year-old Japanese woman, Kane Tanaka.
