Valentine’s Day is around the corner, but a recent survey found that fewer of us will be celebrating, with 51 percent saying they plan to mark the holiday devoted to love, down four percent from last year. But those who are celebrating are spending more money, with the National Retail Federation estimating that Americans will spend more than $20.7 billion on Valentine’s Day, up six percent from last year, with the average person expected to spend about $162.

The biggest chunk in that estimate is for jewelry, at $3.9 billion, followed by $3.5 billion on an evening out, $2.1 billion on clothes, $1.9 billion on flowers, $1.8 billion on candy, $1.3 billion on gift cards, and $933 million on greeting cards. Pets are included too, with some $886 million expected to be spent on them for the holiday.
