Postal Service testing self-driving trucks

The U.S. Postal Service began testing self-driving trucks yesterday (May 21st) to carry mail and packages in a two-week pilot project that will include five round-trips between distribution hubs in Phoenix and Dallas. The trucks built by startup TuSimple will have a certified driver and safety engineer on board, who will do the driving on surface streets and take control as needed.

TuSimple has said its system can handle high winds, rain and night driving, but still has problems with icy roads. They’d better fix that before it comes to Chicago!
