White Sox to extend protective netting to foul poles

The Chicago White Sox plan to extend the netting that protects fans all the way to the foul poles at their stadium, Guaranteed Rate Field, becoming the first major league team to do so. All 30 MLB teams had extended the protective netting to at least the far ends of the dugouts by the start of the 2018 season, following recommendations by the league after several fans were injured by foul balls and even part of a broken bat in 2017. But after a couple of fan injuries got attention this spring that were caused by balls hit in the stands beyond the dugout, the White Sox have decided to expand the netting to the foul poles.
