Paul McCartney & Bruce Springsteen battling each other for ‘Variety Special’ Emmy

Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen have both been nominated for Emmy Awards in the Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) category this year. The former-Beatle has been tapped for CBS’ Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney Live From Liverpool, with “The Boss” being singled out for Netflix’s Springsteen On Broadway concert film.

The rockers face stiff competition with Hannah Gadbsy: Nanette; Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé; and Wanda Sykes: Not Normal.

HBO’s Leaving Neverland, which features the tale of two men who allege Michael Jackson groomed and molested them over the course of years, has been nominated for Best Documentary or Nonfiction Special. Also snagging a nom in that category is no less a sordid tale, with Lifetime’s Surviving R. Kelly.

The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards will air on Sunday, September 22nd on Fox.
