‘Downton Abbey’ takes weekend box office crown

Downton Abbey, the British period TV drama-turned film won the box office this weekend, over Brad Pitt’s Ad Astra and Sly Stone’s Rambo: The Last Blood.

Downton Abbey, which stars Hugh Bonneville and Maggie Smith, snagged $31 million, the highest opening ever for Focus Features. Fox’s Ad Astra, meanwhile, nabbed $19.2 million. Rounding out third place is Last Blood, which grabbed $19 million.
