The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade may not have balloons this year!

The 93rd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will kick off at 8AM on Thursday, November 28th, featuring the iconic giant helium character balloons, floats, marching bands, dancers, clowns, celebrities, Broadway show performances, the Radio City Rockettes, and much more before ending with the traditional arrival of Santa Claus to usher in the holiday season. The nationally-televised parade will wind its way down a route through the streets of Manhattan before ending at Macy’s flagship store on 34th Street.

BUT, the iconic giant helium balloons may not fly in the parade this year because of predicted strong wind gusts of over 40 miles per hour in New York City. Officials will decide on Thanksgiving morning whether to ground the giant balloons from the parade, which hasn’t happened since 1971.

There are 16 giant balloons set for this year, including new additions:

  • Astronaut Snoopy
  • Green Eggs and Ham by Netflix
  • SpongeBob SquarePants & Gary by Nickelodeon
  • Smokey Bear is making a return in celebration of his 75th birthday!

Moreover, the first hour of the broadcast will include live performances from the Broadway musicals: Tina: The Tina Turner Musical; Hadestown; Beetlejuice; and Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations. There will also be a pre-recorded performance from the cast of Broadway’s Mean Girls.
