Spanish Collab Results in Browne Double Album

Jackson Browne is preparing to release a new album this May, the singer/songwriter revealed to Spinner at the recent MusiCares tribute to Neil Young.

"I'm putting out this record of [session guitarist] David Lindley and me in Spain with this Spanish percussion and I kind of held it back in order to make it the double album it should be," Browne said. "So that's called Love Is Strange and it's me and David Lindley."

The double album will be issued on Browne's own Inside Records, and will offer different renditions of some of his favorite tunes.

Browne also told Spinner that the Spanish excursion with Lindley was helpful in building a rapport.

"Some great things happened, beginning with the normally reclusive (hermitlike even) Lindley becoming dependent on me for food and getting to and from his hotel. Why had I not thought of this before? Take him where he doesn't speak the language and he will have to leave the gig and come with you to the restaurant, or to the club. This was an unexpected strategy breakthrough in a pursuit that for a legion of friends, disciples and admirers has become known as 'stalking the wild Lindley.'"

Fortunately for Browne, the trip is documented on the new album. "A flash in time that went by so effortlessly, and with such pleasure, that I must ask myself if it really happened. But here it is -- a CD of some recorded moments, or perhaps a bridge, or a small door, between a life lived mostly in America and time spent with some really good friends in Spain."
