The Mandalorian on Disney+ feels like Star Wars!

For the first time in YEARS I sat down to watch new Star Wars, and I felt something that I haven’t felt in a long time…. ENJOYMENT. I was ENJOYING myself! HA!

I’ve been somewhat in the dumps on the new Star Wars trilogy. Awesome if you like it, but it isn’t for me. I’ve TRIED, but I don’t like many of the new characters, and I feel like the older characters that I grew up with weren’t used properly. Does this mean Star Wars is dead? NO – but after Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi my love for the franchise sat at an all time low.

So in walks Dave Filoni (the true heir to Lucasfilm) and Jon Favreau with The Mandalorian – a day one release on Disney+. The second episode comes out tonight, and I’m actually excited to see where this series goes!

This show felt like Star Wars, with a splash of Firefly. (If you haven’t seen the sci-fi western show Firefly with Nathan Fillion you are missing out….) The music was more western inspired vs the normal Star Wars fanfare, but the overall feeling of the show felt EXTREMELY like Star Wars. There are aliens that we’ve missed in the new Star Wars movies back in this series. There was decent action. The Mandalorian character is interesting, and I’m not even all that into Mandalorian lore. The episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars that revolved around Mandalore and Mandalorians were some of my least favorite, but I’m definitely intrigued to see where The Mandalorian ends up. Also, it felt like it was made for a male Star Wars audience, which I like…. Because… well… I’m a dude. So shoot me. 🙂

Overall from what I’ve read over the years from Star Wars fans, Rogue One is the fan favorite Disney Star Wars movie… And fan reception to The Mandalorian seems to be extremely positive. I hope Disney and Lucasfilm are paying attention!
