THIS is why you mishear popular song lyrics

It’s easy to mishear song lyrics, but did you ever wonder why? The issue is that if noises are unclear when they hit our ears, our brains have issues decoding exactly what is being said. This is common with songs because the music can drown out the lyrics.

Thomas Ethofer, a professor of psychotherapy and psychiatry explains that if your brain can’t initially comprehend a lyric, if offers up an alternative to quickly solve the problem, and that rendition can stick in your head, even once you learn the correct lyrics. Also, just knowing the wrong version of the lyrics can prime your brain to hear them instead of the correct ones.
