Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune are eliminating studio audiences

Variety reports that both shows won’t tape in front of a live studio audience because of the outbreak.  First and foremost, they want to protect Alex Trebek, who’s battling Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and has a compromised immune system.

“Variety” also points out that both shows’ audiences typically skew OLDER, with plenty of out-of-town tourists, who have recently traveled by plane.  As we’ve all heard by now, those most at risk of becoming very sick from COVID-19 are older adults and those with serious medical conditions.  While we want our favorite game show hosts kept safe, both shows will be missing that audience reaction from the best moments…

So far, ABC, NBC and CBS haven’t changed their procedures for talk-show audiences, but there’s a decent chance that those tapings could also make changes in the near future.
