Is MoviePass returning?

Remember MoviePass, the subscription that once let you see UNLIMITED movies at the movie theater for $10 a month?  It shut down in 2019, BEFORE the coronavirus shut down movie theaters.

But now, MoviePass may be coming back from the dead.  The website MoviePass.ventures had a countdown clock that ends next Monday, March 22nd.  It just says, quote, “The movie is about to start.”  There’s no other information on what’s happening.

The trademarked “MoviePass” logo is the same.  But, the original MoviePass website, Moviepass.com, is still unchanged.  It has the shutdown notice from 2019, with a space where you can sign up to be notified if the service is restored.

As far as we know, no one is being notified of a MoviePass revival.  There’s another possibility:  The new domain was registered earlier this month . . . one month after Mark Wahlberg’s production company announced an upcoming “docuseries” on the MoviePass story.  So maybe THAT’S what this is about.
