Did you know zoos trade animals?
Chicago‘s Brookfield Zoo made swapped one of its gorillas for one from the Saint Louis Zoo. Western lowland Gorillas Jontu and Zachary have swapped homes… but why?
Western lowland gorillas are facing extinction in the wild, but @zoos_aquariums are helping to save them. We welcome Zachary, who will join Joe and Bakari in the bachelor group at Jungle of the Apes. We’ll miss Jontu, who moved to @brookfield_zoo to someday start a family. pic.twitter.com/79qJcDlsA0

The zoos are swapping gorillas to promote the conservation of the species and assist in the procreation of the creatures. Zachary is young and not ready for breeding. So he’s joining a gorilla bachelor group in St. Louis until it’s his time to get it on.
This is a very common practice in zoos to help grow the populations of endangered species.
