This weekend, we spring forward with Daylight Saving Time. That means we lose one hour of our weekend that was originally proposed by Benjamin Franklin as a partial joke. That’s right, according to MentalFloss.com, “Franklin may have originally written [his Day Light Saving Proposal] as an excuse to poke fun at the French for being lazy.
Daylight Saving Time is also considered by many a health hazard. MentalFloss points out, “An increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and susceptibility to illness have all been linked to the time change.” But, the time change occurs at 2AM for the sake of the general public. It is believed that having it occur so late raises the chances that more people will be asleep when the time changes.
