There will be no plastic straws at this Sunday’s White Sox game

The Chicago White Sox will officially be the first MLB team to stop distributing plastic straws at their field.  In celebration of Earth Day this Sunday, not a single straw will be given at any concession at Guaranteed Rate Field.  This move comes an effort to reduce harmful pollution caused by the non-biodegrable straws.  “We are honored to be the first ballpark to take the step of reducing our single-use plastic straws for nearly a full season, but we certainly hope that we will not be the last as there is more work to be done to protect our environment,” said Brooks Boyer, White Sox senior vice president of sales and marketing.

This Earth Day, the White Sox are partnering with the Shedd Aquarium in the “Shedd the Straw” initiative.  Plastic straws will onward be replaced by biodegradable straws upon request.
