Chicago to beef up concert security

With Lollapalooza around the corner and a recent situation at a Foo Fighters concert, the city of Chicago is working to boost security for it’s concerts. On Sunday night (July 29th), a 23-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at the first of two Foo Fighters concerts that took place at Chicago’s Wrigley Field. According to the Chicago Tribune, the woman alleged that she was groped while waiting in line for food at the stadium. After leaving the line and walking to a portable toilet, the man followed her and entered the toilet before she could lock the door. She reported being sexually assaulted, with the alleged offender grabbing her neck and hitting her head against the wall.

Lollapalooza begins Thursday, August 2nd and runs through the 5th. The massive concert will draw thousands and therefore need more security.  Chicago is taking both the individual’s safety into consideration as well as preventative measures to ensure protection from potential shootings. Rich Guidice, a Chicago emergency management officia told the Tribune SWAT teams with sniper capabilities will also be available.  There will also be undercover officers posted inside concert grounds.
