McDonald’s is celebrating a major milestone on August 2nd: the 50th anniversary of the McDonald’s Big Mac. The historical sandwich came from Pittsburgh, having been created by Jim Delligatti. The name, “Big Mac,” actually came from a 21-year-old secretary named Esther Glickstein Rose from Oak Brook, Illinois who was working at McDonald’s headquarters. The original Big Mac debuted at Delligatti’s restaurant for only 45 cents.
McDonald’s is celebrating their iconic burger’s birthday by giving away free MacCoins to any customer who buys a Big Mac during that day’s lunch rush. The number of MacCoins are limited, and can be traded in any time between August 3rd and December 31st, 2018 for a free Big Mac. No word on what the MacCoins are made of, or exactly how many will be available.
