Most movies since 1968 are rated ‘R’ according to MPAA study

It turns out most movies are rated ‘R’ these days. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) says of the 29,791 OK’d by the board since its inception in 1968, the vast majority (17,202), have been assigned an ‘R.’ Coming in behind ‘R’ are movies rated ‘PG’ (5,578), those rated ‘PG-13’ (4,913), and those rated ‘G’ (1,574.) A mere 524 movies have been rated NC-17. This report was released to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the voluntary ratings system on November 1st.
