Idris Elba has been crowned Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine. The 46-year-old Brit has become one of Hollywood’s most respected stars, People points out, starting with his breakthrough role in America as drug kingpin Russell “Stringer” Bell on HBO’s hit series The Wire to his role as Heimdall in Marvel’s Thor franchise. Elba is the 33rd man to receive the honor.
He tells the magazine of his awkward high school years: “I was very tall and skinny. And my name was Idrissa Akuna Elba, okay? I got picked on a little bit. But as soon as I could grow a mustache, I was the coolest kid on the block. Grew a mustache, had some muscles, bonkers.”
