UPDATE: In backlash, Walmart will try to keep greeters

Walmart has faced harsh criticism for its announcement that the megastore giant’s plan to eliminate greeter jobs at 1,000 stores in April.  The company had hoped to convert the position into a more physically demanding job, which would eliminate many of the current greeters.    The move was seen as discriminatory to many.  President and CEO of Walmart’s U.S. stores, Greg Foran, in response to the backlash wrote a memo to stores that said, “Let me be clear: If any associate in this unique situation wants to continue working at Walmart, we should make every effort to make that happen.”  The store chain intends to find other positions for its employees and claims it will not fire disabled employees.
