Measles cases has reached a near-record level in the U.S after nearly 100 people got sick in one week.  The Center for Disease Control says that there are 100,000 cases confirmed worldwide and 555 cases of measles have been confirmed in 25 states.  Measles was declared ‘eradicated’ in 2000, but 2019 has the second highest number of cases since then, catching up to 2014, when 667 cases were reported.

Cases have been confirmed in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Washington and Texas. Of those states, six – Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, Oregon, Texas and Washington – allow exemptions for philosophical and/or personal beliefs.   Meanwhile, New York and Washington have declared states of emergency.
