Americans on average spend 6.4 hours a day sitting

Sitting down is something we all seem to do too much of. Washington University researchers looked at a ton of data, and found total time spent sitting increased about an hour per day to 8.2 hours for adolescents and 6.4 hours for adults 2007 to 2016. It’s estimated that in 2015 to 2016, 62 percent of children, 59 percent of adolescents, and 65 percent of adults parked it watching TV or videos at least two hours a day.

Also, the number of people who used computers for one hour or more per day during leisure time increased across all age groups from 43 percent to 56 percent among children 2001 to 2016; and from 29 percent to 50 percent among adults from 2003 to 2016. Only one issue, people self-reported how much they sat.
