Governor J.B. Pritzker announced Saturday (May 4th) that he’d reached an agreement with key state lawmakers on a plan to legalize recreational marijuana starting next year. The proposed law would allow adults 21 and older to legally buy marijuana for recreational use from licensed dispensaries, with state residents allowed to possess up to about an ounce of the drug and non-residents about half an ounce. Some marijuana convictions would also automatically be expunged. If the measure passes, Illinois would become the 11th state to legalize recreational marijuana. Medical marijuana is already legal in this state.
