Selfies are five times more deadly than shark attacks

Snapping selfies is trendy, but it can also be dangerous. According to India’s Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care, between October 2011 and November 2017, at least 259 people died taking selfies around the world. In the same time period just 50 people were killed by sharks. Women take the most selfies, but young men make up 75 percent of the selfie-related deaths. India holds the record number of people dying via selfie, with 159 so far– Russia came in second place with 16 deaths, while the U.S. and Pakistan tied for third with 14 deaths each.
