The earliest known live tape of U2 performing together has been discovered. The band’s 17-song opening set on August 11th, 1979 for another local group, the Stougers, features U2 performing live at Dublin, Ireland’s Dandelion Market. Stougers guitarist Pete McCluskey told the U2 fans site ATU2: “I am pleased that I recorded the show, and hadn’t realized the significance of it and its place in history until quite recently.”
Prior to the new discovery, the earliest U2 gig making the rounds was the quartet’s October 22nd, 1979 show at the Cork Opera House.
