We may be going back to that era if a certain bill is passed in Illinois.  The Gas Station Attendant Act would make it illegal to pump your own gas.  If passed, this would begin as soon as January 1st of 2021.

So, either gas stations are really going to have to up their employee counts or you will be waiting in much longer lines the next time you go to fill up your tank!
