Eddie Money Tribute Concert coming to AXS TV on March 22nd

Coming to AXS TV on March 22nd is “A Star-Studded Tribute To Eddie Money.” The benefit concert raised funds for the USC Eddie Money Cancer Research Fund, and was held on February 20th, at L.A.’s at The Canyon at The Saban Theater to salute Money, who died of cancer on September 13th last year.

Among the artists paying tribute to Money were Sammy Hagar, George Thorogood, John Waite, Jefferson Starship‘s Mickey Thomas, REO Speedwagon‘s Kevin Cronin and Dave Amato, Greg Kihn, Tommy Tutone and Metallica‘s James Hetfield — making his first live performance since entering rehab last fall, and stealing the show with a minor key-tinged, ballad rendition of Money’s “Baby Hold On.”

Speaking on behalf of the Money family, Money’s widow, Laurie, posted a long message on Facebook thanking fans and participants in the show, including artists who couldn’t be in attendance and sent videos — Joan Jett, Huey Lewis, Bryan Adams, John Cafferty, Dennis DeYoung, actor Kevin James, and Boston.

She went on to say, “I want to also mention how proud Eddie would’ve been to see the beautiful and brave performances of Jesse, Dez, and Julian alongside his true friends and music legends that were there to honor him and to help us celebrate his life as well as mourn our loss. It took a lot of courage for Jesse, Dez and Julian to go out and perform their dad’s music and also for Zach and Joe to be there on the side of the stage with me watching and listening to Eddie’s songs being sung without hearing their dad’s iconic voice.
