Movie theaters may reopen, but you’ll be sitting FAR away from people when they do

Movie theater owners and executives are anxious to reopen as they’ve been struggling amid the coronavirus shut-downs that have kept them closed for weeks. Different states will give the go-ahead for that to happen at different times, depending on their virus situation, but when they do open back up, patrons aren’t going to be sitting near each other for a while. Insider spoke to several theater owners and execs, who said tickets for showings will be limited so that patrons can be kept spread out in the theater. They will also have to follow government mandates on how large public gatherings can be.

Theater employees may also be required to wear masks and have their temperatures taken. There’s also the issue that Hollywood hasn’t been releasing new movies, postponing many that were planned, because theaters have been closed, so there won’t be new releases to show. Because of that, some theaters are planning to show older movies, and several studios are making their entire catalogs available to theaters under favorable terms to help draw patrons back. The industry is looking to hopefully make a return by the weekend of July 17th, when Christopher Nolan‘s Tenet is scheduled to open.
