More Americans buying homes again for a second straight month

The number of Americans signing contracts to buy homes rose for the second straight month in June after a huge dropoff in the spring due to the start of the coronavirus pandemic in the U.S., according to the National Association of Realtors.

Contract signings are now 6.3 percent of what they were at the same time last year, and all four regions of the country saw more signings, led by the Northeast, with a 54.4 percent increase.

They were up about 12 percent in the Midwest, South and West. NAR’s chief economist, Lawrence Yun, said yesterday, July 29th, that despite the pandemic, quote, “Consumers are taking advantage of record-low mortgage rates…”
