The pandemic has led to an uptick in people reporting UFO sightings. Data from the nonprofit National UFO Reporting Center, which records UFO-related events, shows sightings are up 51 percent so far this year, compared to the same period in 2019. Of the 5,000 sightings reported this year, 20 percent occurred in April—at the height of the COVID-19 crisis and lockdown.
Peter Davenport, who has directed the organization since 1994, says he’s reluctant to speculate as to why there’s been an uptick in reports. This news comes as last month, the Pentagon announced it’s forming a new task force led by the US Navy to investigate UFOs.
