Wilmette, Park Ridge, Batavia, Elk Grove on track for legalizing sale of Marijuana

On January 1st of this year, recreational use of cannabis (marijuana) was legalized for the state of Illinois.  BUT, this did not mean a cannabis dispensary could just open up down your street.  The state left it up to cities, villages, and municipalities to determine whether or not those can be opened within their boundaries.

So, this popped up on the ballots of 7 different Chicago suburbs.  Residents of Batavia, Elk Grove Village, Glen Ellyn, Mount Prospect, Park Ridge, Western Springs and Wilmette all voted on whether or not the towns would allow sales.  Votes are still being counted, but some of these burbs are VERY likely to see new dispensaries pop up…and some aren’t.

Batavia, Elk Grove, Mount Prospect, Park Ridge and Wilmette are currently looking like they will be allowing sales of cannabis while Glen Ellyn could go either way and Western Springs is looking like it’s going to be NO.  Of course, nothing will be set in stone until every vote is counted, but some suburbanites will have reason to celebrate Election Day.
