NORAD will still be tracking Santa this year

The coronavirus has canceled many, many things this year, but Santa won’t be one of them, with the North American Aerospace Defense Command announcing yesterday, November 17th, that it will again be tracking Santa around the globe on Christmas Eve, carrying on its 65-year tradition.

However, there will be changes, including that not every child will be able to reach a volunteer at NORAD’s call center to check on Santa’s progress. Some 150 volunteers usually are together at one time in shifts at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs to answer the phone calls. But their number has been drastically cut this year due to coronavirus safety restrictions. If callers don’t reach a live volunteer, they’ll get a recorded update on Santa’s progress.

Of course, everyone can still follow along on the NORAD Tracks Santa website, as well as social media pages, Amazon’s Alexa, Onstar, and on a new mobile app.
