Betty White celebrating 99th birthday on Sunday – We’re celebrating with our favorite TV roles of hers

Betty White will turn 99 on Sunday, and her celebration is already planned.

She told “Entertainment Tonight”, quote, “Running a mile each morning has been curtailed by COVID, so I am working on getting ‘The Pet Set’ re-released, and feeding the two ducks who come to visit me every day.”

While Betty is celebrating her health, we wanted to celebrate her career with some of our favorite roles from the comedian and actress.  In no particular order, here’s our 5 picks…

Rose Nylund from The Golden Girls – Arguably Betty White’s most memorable television role, the actress made us laugh and love ditsy and naive Rose.  She served as a terrific foil to the rest of the ‘girls,’ standing out with her innocence and unintentionally (to the character at least) clever one-liners.

Elka Ostrovsky from Hot In Cleveland – A very recent addition to the accomplished comedian’s repertoire, “Hot in Cleveland,” features a cast of comedic TV’s great actresses.  Elka, the elderly Polish caretaker in the series, ALWAYS had a hilarious remark to ladies of Cleveland and stole so many of the scenes she was in.

TV Land released a best-of for Elka on their YouTube channel featuring many of those scenes…

Sue Ann Nivens from the Mary Tyler Moore Show – Introduced in season 4 of the classic sitcom, Sue Ann Nivens was intended to be a one-episode character.  But when you have Betty White on your set, you can’t stop at just one.  The character would go on to be a main-stay on the show and even win Betty two Emmy Awards for her role.

Catherine Piper from Boston Legal – The TV show starring William Shatner in a courtroom setting was a great comedy/dramatic series.  So, Betty White fit naturally in this unique show as the recurring Catherine Piper.  Possibly the best assistant Alan Shore could have asked for, Piper came with a tray of cookies and so many hilarious one-liners.

Ann Douglas from The Bold And The Beautiful – For those that ever doubted that Betty White has range, I give you The Bold and the Beautiful.  Betty made a splash in her 3-year role on the 8,000-episode soap opera as the mother of main character, Stephanie Forrester.  Her shady past made for a deep character that would be a constant source of drama for Stephanie and her family.
