The Library of Congress on Wednesday, March 24th, announced 25 new sound recordings that are being inducted into the National Recording Registry. The Library selects titles to be preserved, which have to be at least 10 years old, because of their cultural and historic importance.
The new entries include: Kool & the Gang‘s “Celebration”; Kermit the Frog‘s “Rainbow Connection”; Janet Jackson‘s 1989 album, Rhythm Nation 1814; Louis Armstrong‘s “When the Saints Go Marching In,” Nas‘ debut 1994 album, Illmatic; Patti LaBelle‘s “Lady Marmalade”; the soap opera Guiding Light‘s theme song; and the 1941 Christmas Eve radio broadcast by President Franklin Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
