Goodbye free parking… Montrose Beach has new parking meters today

Parking in Chicago can often be a nightmare… ESPECIALLY if you’re the type who doesn’t want to pay for parking.  The effort gets way more difficult when searching for those few spots that don’t fall under a meter’s territory.  Trust me, I know the struggle well.

And it just got WORSE!!  The city of Chicago added new parking meters to Montrose Beach.  It’s part of Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s last budget.

Park-goers are not pleased as you would guess.  MSN included a quote from Greg Hipp, executive director of the Chicago Area Runners Association, in their article on the subject.  He said, The average person who comes to the park twice a month, it is going to cost them $300 a year.”  In my professional opinion: that sucks.

There will still be some free parking near Montrose Harbor.  If you want to score those though, know where they’re at and get there early!  You won’t be the only one wanting that free parking spot.
