Will Smith‘s slap of Chris Rock aside, the Oscars broadcast Sunday night seemingly didn’t have much to draw viewers, despite producers’ best efforts to shake things up…
While the Academy Awards improved its ratings from last year’s pandemic-affected show with an estimated 15.4 million viewers, up 56 percent from 2021, it was still the second-lowest in viewership in history.
Among the changes made to try to boost ratings were removing eight less attention-grabbing categories, such as film editing, production design, and makeup and hairstyling from the broadcast, and allowing fans to vote online for their favorite film to be recognized during the show.
This year’s Oscars was hosted by Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer and Regina Hall.
