The family of the late Joseph Richard Stancak just received an enormous surprise from the Illinois State Treasurer.

Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs returned Stancak’s unclaimed $11 Million estate to his family. It was the largest return of unclaimed property in the U.S.

Stancak, who was born in Chicago, acquired wealth quietly throughout his life. He passed away in 2016.

Stancak and his siblings never had children, so it was difficult to track down an heir to his wealth. Most of his family were in Poland and Slakovia, but he did have seven in and around Chicago.
