Amos Kipruto is finally no. 1 in Chicago.
After finishing third in 2024 and second in 2025, Kipruto has officially won the 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon — and in dominant fashion.
He took a late lead after battling neck and neck with last year’s champion Jacob Kiplimo, who quickly fell behind as Kipruto picked up the pace with just miles to the finish line.
“This really is a great day for Kipruto,” NBC Chicago analyst and American running coach Ed Eyestone said during the broadcast of the race.
The sixth-fastest man in history, Kipruto recorded a time of 2:01:29 in London earlier this year. He finished faster than that in Chicago, with a time of 2:01:09.
“I was here to fight for the podium,” Kipruto said after his finish. “Everything is all about that mindset … I set my mind on it.”
Kipruto has rarely raced outside of the Abbott World Marathon Majors.
