AP News reports that the Supreme Court is legalizing gambling on sporting events in all 50 states. Since 1992, legal bets had to be made in Nevada (usually Vegas) but now, the Court is eliminating he federal law that bars the rest of us from placing a bet on the Cubs. Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christy lead the way for this through a lawsuit declaring the Government’s ban on gambling unconstitutional. The court agreed.
With the federal government lifting its ban, its now up to set up sports gambling in their casinos and horse tracks. WLS-AM reports, “There is a proposal in Springfield that would legalize betting on individual professional, amateur and college games, with the state imposing taxes on the industry. Proponents say it could bring in $85 million per year for the cash starved State of Illinois.”
