The National Retail Federation reports American adults will spend about a billion dollars on beer this Independence Day, which is roughly the same amount that is spent on fireworks. We’ll also spend $6.7 billion on hot dogs, hamburgers, and other picnic essentials, and the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council says Americans will eat 150 million hot dogs on July 4th. All in all, Americans are expected to spend an average of $73 a piece for the holiday, and 86 percent of the population is expected to celebrate this year, primarily by hosting or attending cookouts, barbecues, and picnics.
