PETA wants you to stop saying “Pets”

PETA thinks your pets are sensitive… or maybe PETA is being sensitive.  The animal rights organization says the term “Pet” is ‘Derogatory And Patronizing.’

According to the Daily Mail, PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said, “Animals are not pets – they are not your cheap burglar alarm, or something which allows you to go out for a walk. They are not ours as decorations or toys, they are living beings…  A dog is a feeling, whole individual, with emotions and interests, not something you ‘have’.”

My dogs are members of the family, I’ll give PETA that.  But, “Pets” being derogative?

Instead of using the word pet, they want you to refer to them as, “Companions.”  So, will you be changing your ways, or sticking to calling your furry babies, your pets?
