Tax filing deadline pushed back one month to May 17th

The IRS announced yesterday, March 17th, that the tax filing deadline is being pushed back a month from the usual April 15th to May 17th. Those who owe money won’t face any further penalties or interest if they pay by May 17th, but people with estimated tax payments due on April 15th must pay by that day.

The IRS’ decision to delay the due date gives tax filers and them a little more time to deal with changes due to the pandemic. Last year, the tax filing deadline date was delayed to July 15th due to the pandemic.
