Chicago Alderman wants to raise speed camera ticket enforcement from 6 MPH over to 10 MPH

Drivers all over needed to focus more on leaving early (or at least on time) to avoid getting speeding tickets.  On March 1st, the City of Chicago started issuing $35 speeding tickets for those who drove 6-10 miles over the limit in a speed zone.  11 mph and more, nets you a $100 ticket.

One city alderman wants this to change.  Ald. Anthony Beale wants to raise the enforced speed limit back to 10 miles and over.

According to CBS 2 Chicago, Beale said in a statement: “Frankly, we don’t even know for certain whether the cameras reduce crashes and fatalities. But what we do know is that the City’s speed cameras function as a cash cow.”

Beale plans to bring this to the City Council Transportation Committee.  But, don’t get too excited.  Beale also plans on proposing the placement of speed cameras on Lake Shore Drive, where he claims the real speeding takes place.
