Chicago Bears and cold weather are a match made in football heaven. And this Sunday’s game at Soldier Field is shaping up to be a frigid frenzy.
The Bears will face the Cleveland Browns with a noon kickoff. WGN’s Mike Janssen is forecasting a kickoff temp of 10-11 degrees. The average high for this time of year is 37 degrees. On top of the cold air temp the windchill will be -5 to -3 degrees.
A 10 degree kickoff would rank as the 6th coldest game at Solider Field and the coldest since 2002.
The coldest game was Dec 22, 2008 when it was 2 degrees at kickoff with a wind chill of -13 degrees. The Bears took on the Packers on Monday Night Football. Robbie Gould’s 38-yard kick through the uprights in overtime had the Bears winning 20-17 win.
Temps are set to rebound a bit after Sunday with more seasonable air temps on the way next week.
