It’s no secret to Chicagoans that our city is a top destination for coffee—and now a global ranking confirms it!
Food & Wine has released its 2026 Global Tastemakers roundup, and named the Windy City among the top 5 U.S. metros for coffee.
Here’s a look at the list and some of the best Chicago coffee shops mentioned in the roundup!
Chicago claimed the number 4 spot on Food & Wine’s roundup of Top 10 US Cities for Coffee.
The publication notes the Windy City’s rich coffeehouse history, dating back to 1918 with the historic Knickerbocker Coffee Shop serving as a community touchstone.
Other time-honored local spots according to F&W include Intelligentsia and Metric Coffee, which have been serving Chicagans since the 90s and early 2010s respectively.
F&W also recommends checking out Metric’s new all-day cafe Milli, Croatian coffee and lunch spot Doma, and Palestinian coffee shop and bakery Oud.
