A new survey found that Americans are spending nearly half of their days looking at screens… and it’s increasing! The survey of 2,000 adults from market research firm OnePoll showed that 42 percent of the time Americans are awake they are watching a smartphone, TV, computer, tablet or other device, which they calculated works out to about six hours and 43 minutes a day, based on the average American sleeping eight hours a night.

Additionally, 79 percent of those surveyed said their screen time has increased over the past five years, and 40 percent said it’s gone up a lot. Three in four believe they spend too much time in front of screens, 73 percent said all the screen time makes them feel lethargic and 64 percent feel happier after taking a significant break from looking at a screen.
